Exercise 2 - Accountability

To be truly successful, you must be consistent.  One tool to help you with this is an ‘Accountabilibuddy’ (a fun word for someone to whom you are accountable.)  So the next step is to find that person.  Make a list of 5 people who you could contact and ask to keep you accountable.  Some suggestions:  a spouse, friends, a boss or co-worker, someone you know from a shared club or activity.  Don’t think too hard and resist the inclination to pre-judge whether these people will help you or not.  Your focus should only be on whether this person is positive and successful.

Great!  Another step out of the way.  Now take one more step and call or e-mail those 5 people right now.  You should tell them something like this:

“I’m working through a program that is helping me change my life and pursue the dream I’ve always had.  To get there, though, I need someone to hold me accountable for working toward my goal on a daily basis.  I thought of you because you’re a consistent person who does a great job of following-through on things.  Would you be willing to check-in with me once a week to make sure I’m moving forward?  Thanks so much for your positive influence in my life.”

Go contact your 5 right now!
